This year the National Healthcare Decisions Day Initiative has set a fundraising goal of $3,000 for each state to build a budget for increasing public education about advance care planning. We can achieve this goal through individual donations and donations by our NHDD participating organizations. All donations are welcomed and genuinely appreciated.
This fundraising goal not mandatory, but we hope our goals outlined below will inspire people across the country to collectively work together to achieve this goal in an effort to increase public education about the importance of advance care planning.
Why are we setting this goal?
Our primary purpose is to fund live streaming of at least one event per state for National Healthcare Decisions Day 2012 to amplify our efforts and to increase public education about advance care planning. Of course, donations to NHDD also help us provide resources and website content throughout the year.
What is live streaming?
Live streaming is a way to live broadcast video content over the internet.
How will this increase public education about advance care planning?
There are two ways live streaming will increase public access to a variety of events across the country
First, if you can’t make it to an event in your state, you might be able to make it to “participate” remotely or to “attend” an event in another state by joining the online broadcast. This will provide great public access to events and interdisciplinary speakers discussing the importance of advance care planning throughout the country.
Second, all of these events will not only be streamed live, they will also be recorded, so throughout the following year the educational points speakers make can be highlighted on the NHDD Blog so we can extend the public education from National Healthcare Decisions Day, on April 16, into a year of engaging video and written content that people can comment on, ask questions and learn more about how important advance directives are to patient-centered care across all areas of our health system.
Remember there are lots of ways you can participate!
